Dog Scouts

I came across a program for dogs recently and I wanted to share it with you. Everybody has heard of boy scouts and girl scouts for children and now there is a Dog Scout community that lets your pup earn merit badges. Your pup can ear badges by painting by paw, backbacking, and tracking. This is a great way to give your dog more things to do and a chance for you to bond with your canine. You can visit the Dogs Scout site to find local troops to join or to find out how you can start your own communicty dog scout troop.

Does Cracking a Car Window for Your Dog Work?

Summer is definately in full swing and every year many dogs die while waiting for their pet owners to return from running erands. The pets waiting in for their owners cannot take the overwhelming heat. As a way to combat this, many people dog owners "crack" their car dog windows in an effort to keep the car cool. However, studies show that cracking your car window barely reduces the rise of temperature in your car. Mydogiscool has great resources that show how outside temperatures compare with the inside temerature of vehicles. It's a great place to find info regarding leaving pets in cars during the summer heat.

Tip for Choosing a Training Colalr

The strength of the shock can vary and the first thing that you should do is consider whether you know what strength your dog will need. Just about all professional dog trainers these days agree that the best way to train a dog is by rewards and reinforcing good behavior. Punishing a dog for bad behavior is not nearly so effective. Often it confuses the dog and just makes him scared of life, without changing his behavior at all. So it is very important that the training collar that you buy just gives the dog a slight buzz that he would prefer to avoid, not any kind of painful or frightening shock that could be considered a punishment. Other things being equal, you would expect a large dog to require a stronger reminder than a small dog, but this is not necessarily the case. Some breeds and some individual dogs are more stubborn and harder to train than others. So it is a good idea if you are looking for one of these collars, to choose one that has a variable setting. Start with the lowest setting and see how your dog responds.

How to decide custody of your dog

Many people often wonder how the custody of their beloved pet gets when a couple splits. One major point to keep in mind is that pets do not go to the better caregiver; rather they are considered to be personal property. Proving ownership over your dog requires your name to be on the following documentation: Adoption application or breeder sales contract, veterinary records, city licensing forms, or microchip documents. If these documents do not have your name on them or they share the name of your partner, it is advised that you negotiate the pet terms early on or use a moderator to help decide custody of your pet and other belongins. How to Save Money on Dog Food

People are always looking to save money on pet products so I thought I would give some helpful tips on how to cut back food costs for your dog. For starters, do not use cans since canned foods are wet. The canned foods are made up of lots of water to keep the food moist so your dog will have to eat more of the food to fill up. Another thing to try is to buy large bags of food. Buying in bulk will save you a few bucks but be sure to keep the food stored properly so that it doesn't spoil before you use it. One more thing tip to keep food costs down is to use coupons. Many manufacturers have downloadable coupons you can use to reduce the cost of food even more. Use these tips to put some money back in your pockets.
